Data Sources & Attributions

Last updated: 2026-09-24

The platform's screening figures, maps and site analysis draw on the public data sources below — statistical and market datasets, statutory environmental and heritage map layers, terrain elevation, and the basemap and geocoding providers behind every map we render. Each is used under its stated licence; where a licence requires attribution, the attribution is given here and alongside the figures it supports. Sources marked internal-use inform our models but are never republished.

SP Energy Networks Open Data

SP Energy Networks

Substation headroom, scenario capacity, GSP queue, embedded-generation and site-level curtailment evidence behind the grid-headroom screener (and the SPEN-derived fallback table used when no API key is set)

Licence: SP Energy Networks Open Data Licence, based on CC BY 4.0 — commercial use permitted with attribution; licensed per dataset

Contains data from the SP Energy Networks Open Data portal, licensed under the SP Energy Networks Open Data Licence (based on CC BY 4.0).

SPEN Competition, Bids & Dispatch

SP Energy Networks

DSO flexibility-market ACTIVITY (tendered/contracted/dispatched MWh by competition, deliberately no price and no licence-area split — see DATA_SOURCE_LICENSES.md for why) behind the DSO Flexibility market-activity signal (spen-flexibility.ts) feeding finance-portal's merchant-as revenue stream. Same portal/licence as SP Energy Networks Open Data above, a different dataset (competition_bids_dispatch_data).

Licence: SP Energy Networks Open Data Licence, based on CC BY 4.0 — same portal-wide licence as the entry above; this dataset's own per-dataset license field is null, resolved the same way already applied to other SPEN datasets with that gap

Contains data from the SP Energy Networks Open Data portal (Competition, Bids & Dispatch), licensed under the SP Energy Networks Open Data Licence (based on CC BY 4.0).

SPEN Flexibility Value Forecast

SP Energy Networks

Forward flexibility-value FORECAST (guide ceiling £/MWh and estimated market value by substation and financial year, spd/spm-heat-map-flexibility) — a separate OPPORTUNITY signal, never fed into the DSO Flexibility revenue estimate, since it forecasts a requirement rather than recording an achieved price. Covers both SP Distribution and SP Manweb (two per-area datasets, each reporting its own CC BY 4.0 licence directly).

Licence: CC BY 4.0 (reported directly on both datasets' own metadata, no portal-terms fallback needed)

Contains data from the SP Energy Networks Open Data portal (SPD/SPM Flexibility Requirements heat maps), licensed under CC BY 4.0.

NESO Data Portal

National Energy System Operator (NESO)

TEC register and EAC auction results behind GB grid-queue and revenue screening. The Transmission Entry Capacity register and the Capacity Market register are now captured on a daily schedule as dated vintages, because NESO keeps one rolling file with no archive and a missed publication is unrecoverable. From 2026-09-20 also the lab-month A3 panels: response-reserve auction results by unit for all four financial-year resources of the eac-auction-results package and the separate eac-br-auction-results package (balancing reserve, 2024-03-12 to 2025-10-29), aggregated on the server to unit, month and product; the aggregates are committed under data-platform/lake/vintages-committed/neso-eac-results-by-unit-aggregate/.

BESS & Solar Market Intelligence module's Finland Frequency Response benchmark — FCR-N and FCR-D (up/down) hourly reserve-market clearing prices (datasets 317, 318, 283). aFRR/mFRR balancing-capacity datasets are a different market segment and are not fetched.

Licence: Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0), badged per-dataset on data.fingrid.fi — commercial use permitted. Fingrid's separate corporate legal-terms page disclaims commercial use of its general website market information; that is read as governing the marketing site, not the dedicated open-data API, which carries its own explicit CC BY 4.0 badge — see DATA_SOURCE_LICENSES.md for the full reasoning.

Energi Data Service (Energinet)

Energinet (Denmark's transmission system operator)

BESS & Solar Market Intelligence module's Denmark Frequency Response benchmark — FCR-N and FCR-D (up/down) hourly reserve-market clearing prices for DK2 (dataset FcrNdDK2), the Nordic-synchronous Danish price area. DK1's FCR dataset (a differently-shaped, undifferentiated continental primary-reserve product, not split N/D) is out of scope, as is DayAheadPrices — Energinet's blanket site-wide CC BY 4.0 licence carries no stated Nord Pool exception, and Energinet's own support confirmed 2026-09-24 that it cannot grant or confirm commercial reuse/redistribution rights over DayAheadPrices on behalf of the NEMOs who own the underlying Nord Pool auction result; not built.

Licence: Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0), stated platform-wide on Energinet's own Terms and Conditions page — commercial use explicitly permitted ("Users may copy, change and distribute data freely, even for commercial purposes"). Applied only to the FCR-N/FCR-D (up/down), DK2 dataset — NOT to DayAheadPrices (Nord Pool day-ahead spot price), which Energinet confirmed 2026-09-24 it cannot license for commercial redistribution on the NEMOs' behalf — stays unbuilt, see DATA_SOURCE_LICENSES.md for the full reasoning.

postcodes.io — UK postcode geocoding API (Ideal Postcodes)

Ideal Postcodes (service); ONS, Ordnance Survey and Royal Mail (underlying postcode data)

Places the UK Ready to Build register on the map: enrich-register.ts resolves each REPD postcode to the postcode's centroid (1,224 of 1,328 rows carry one). A postcode centroid, not the site — every row says so via locationMethod. Fetched from 2026-09-03; registered 2026-09-14 after an audit found the host with no entry. Also used in reverse from 2026-09-30: dno-area-lookup.ts reverse-geocodes a BESS project's coordinates to a postcode outward-code prefix to route it to its GB DNO for the distribution grid-headroom screener; nothing is persisted.

Licence: Service software: MIT (repository LICENSE, read 2026-09-14). Data: the README (read 2026-09-14) states verbatim that 'Postcodes.io serves the ONS Postcode Directory, Ordnance Survey Open Names and Scottish Postcode Directory datasets'; the service's own about page could not be read by an automated fetch (a 43-byte script shell, 2026-09-14). The underlying datasets are published by ONS and OS under the Open Government Licence v3.0 as their standard position; that position was NOT re-read from the publishers' pages in this session and the register section says so. Permission and terms confirmation requested via Gael (owner, 2026-09-14); pending.

NREL Annual Technology Baseline (ATB) 2025 — utility-scale battery storage cost projection

National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), published through the Open Energy Data Initiative (OEDI) data lake

Year-on-year trend shape only (never the USD level) of the nrel-battery-capex / nrel-battery-opex escalation curves in the finance portal's GB price outlook (packages/panels/src/finance-portal/gb-price-outlook-reference-data.ts), labelled in the product as a US proxy

Licence: TERMS NOT CAPTURED IN THIS REPOSITORY — no licence text for the ATB distribution on the OEDI data lake has been read and recorded here. What is recorded: the file was downloaded 2026-09-21 from https://oedi-data-lake.s3.amazonaws.com/ATB/electricity/csv/2025/v1.0.0/ATBe.csv, a public, unauthenticated bucket. The nearest in-repo capture is the NREL Data Catalog CC BY record read 2026-09-21 for the PVDAQ datasets (DATA_SOURCE_LICENSES.md), which governs a different record, and the 'NREL is a US federal work' basis asserted for the cited NREL capex figures — neither was verified against this dataset. Owner verification pending.

Offenburg University (Yagci, Richter, Behmann, Bessler) — large-format LFP degradation-mode data

Offenburg University of Applied Sciences

Candidate training/evaluation data for the large-format-ageing-evidence bead (docs/model-backlog.json): large-format, stationary-storage LFP calendaric and cyclic aging data, staged for assessment against the platform’s cell-ageing / capacity-fade modelling work. Not yet wired into any model or customer-facing surface — data quality and format fit are under evaluation.

Licence: Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0), read directly from the Zenodo API record’s own metadata field ("license": {"id": "cc-by-4.0"}). The record was originally CC BY-NC 4.0; the corresponding author (Wolfgang G. Bessler) confirmed on 2026-09-24 that the co-authors relicensed it and published a new record, Zenodo 22939281, under CC BY 4.0. See DATA_SOURCE_LICENSES.md for the full correspondence history.

Contains data from Yagci, Richter, Behmann and Bessler, Degradation modes of large-format stationary-storage LFP-based lithium-ion cells during calendaric and cyclic aging (Zenodo 22939281), licensed under CC-BY-4.0.

TEMPEST 280 Ah prismatic LFP cell (EU Horizon project)

EU Horizon project TEMPEST

Independent cross-check of the Bessler large-format LFP cycle-fade fit (nvidia-lab/bessler-cycle-fade/): a different manufacturer's 280 Ah design, aged at a different C-rate, used to test whether the Bessler-fitted temperature dependence generalises. Result recorded as inconclusive given a 4x C-rate confound. Not wired into any model or customer-facing surface.

Licence: Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0), read directly from the Zenodo API record's own metadata field ("license": {"id": "cc-by-4.0"}) on 2026-09-24.

Intended: primary-level capacity heatmap and GSP connection-queue evidence behind the GB distribution grid-headroom screener's North West England coverage. Code-complete (sp-enw-grid-evidence.ts) but SP_ENW_OPEN_DATA_API_KEY is not configured in this environment, so it runs on a labelled screening-fallback table only — no live data has been fetched or stored.

Licence: Creative Commons Attribution 4.0, read directly from the enwl-pry-heatmap dataset's own metadata on 2026-09-30 (catalogue and metadata are public; /records 403s without an account this platform doesn't hold, so field names in the adapter are inferred, not confirmed)

Contains data from SP Electricity North West's Open Data portal, licensed under CC BY 4.0.

NGED Network Capacity

National Grid Electricity Distribution

Intended: the Network Capacity Map CSV behind the GB distribution grid-headroom screener's Midlands/South West/South Wales coverage. Code-complete (nged-grid-evidence.ts) but NGED_DATA_PORTAL_TOKEN is not configured, has never been set, and per this entry's licence status should not be configured until the terms below are resolved — the adapter runs on a labelled screening-fallback table only.

Licence: UNRESOLVED. package_show's own license_id/license_title/license_url fields are empty and isopen is false (confirmed live 2026-09-30) - no machine-readable licence statement exists, and its CSV resource url is returned as the literal string "redacted" to an unauthenticated caller (NGED's Shared Data account gate). No portal terms page was found. Not cleared for commercial use.
